If you apply for a job within Cumberland Council, identify yourself as a care leaver on the application form, and meet the essential criteria, you are guaranteed an interview.
Through our Guarantee Interview Scheme, we ensure equal opportunities for all. If you apply for a position within Cumberland Council, and you consider yourself disabled as defined by the Equality Act 2010 while meeting the essential criteria, you will be guaranteed an interview.
The Armed Forces Community
We’re proud to continue our commitment to supporting the armed forces community through our Guaranteed Interview Scheme. We understand the challenges that military veterans face when transitioning to civilian life, and we recognise the valuable skills and experiences they bring to our workforce.
Under our established Guaranteed Interview Scheme, we ensure that armed forces veterans have a fair opportunity to compete for any council position they apply for. If you meet the following criteria:
- Your last full-time employer was one of the British armed forces
- You have left the armed forces within the past three years
- You possess the essential skills required for the position you're applying for.
You are guaranteed an interview for the role. Our recruitment processes remain consistent, ensuring transparency and fairness for all candidates. While the scheme does not guarantee employment, it provides veterans with the chance to demonstrate their capabilities and suitability for the role.
Support for our Care Leavers
At Cumberland Council, we understand that transitioning from care to independent living can present unique challenges, especially when it comes to entering or re-entering the workforce or pursuing further education. We have extensive connections with professionals who can offer work experience opportunities, assistance with crafting CVs and application forms, and even practice interviews. If you're feeling anxious about re-entering the workforce or pursuing education, we can help you plan those steps too.
We’re proud to offer our Guarantee Interview Scheme for care leavers.
