Darcey Adair - Customer Services Officer
I started my Customer Service apprenticeship in 2017. Throughout my time as an apprentice, I worked with Lakes College to successfully complete a Level 2 Customer Service NVQ and an IT Functional Skills qualification.

At the end of my apprenticeship, I had an interview for a full-time job role within Customer Services, which I was successful in securing. Now, almost 7 years later, I am still very much enjoying my role within the Customer Services team.

Being part of the transition to Cumberland Council has been very interesting and my role is expanding daily. We are covering a wide range of services over the phone, face to face and via email. As a Customer Services Officer, I get great job satisfaction knowing I am helping so many customers every day.

The Armed Forces Community

We’re proud to continue our commitment to supporting the armed forces community through our Guaranteed Interview Scheme. We understand the challenges that military veterans face when transitioning to civilian life, and we recognise the valuable skills and experiences they bring to our workforce.

Under our established Guaranteed Interview Scheme, we ensure that armed forces veterans have a fair opportunity to compete for any council position they apply for. If you meet the following criteria:

  • Your last full-time employer was one of the British armed forces
  • You have left the armed forces within the past three years
  • You possess the essential skills required for the position you're applying for.

You are guaranteed an interview for the role. Our recruitment processes remain consistent, ensuring transparency and fairness for all candidates. While the scheme does not guarantee employment, it provides veterans with the chance to demonstrate their capabilities and suitability for the role.

Support for our Care Leavers

At Cumberland Council, we understand that transitioning from care to independent living can present unique challenges, especially when it comes to entering or re-entering the workforce or pursuing further education. We have extensive connections with professionals who can offer work experience opportunities, assistance with crafting CVs and application forms, and even practice interviews. We’re proud to offer our Guarantee Interview Scheme for care leavers. If you apply for a job within Cumberland Council, identify yourself as a care leaver on the application form, and meet the essential criteria, you are guaranteed an interview. This initiative is part of our ongoing commitment to creating equal opportunities and supporting care leavers in their journey towards employment and personal development.
